Baphomet the misunderstood:
One explanation of the name Baphomet was said that it was a corruption of Mohammed (Mahomet) - the prophet of Islam. Another from Eliphas Levi as the name came from Kabbala. But Levi’s intention was not to depict this goat as something menacing but as a symbol of alchemy’s ultimate enlightenment, Astral Light.
Baphomet has been around centuries before Levi especially during the times of the Knights Templar. Some say Baphomet’s roots came from pagan gods.
Church of Satan adopted the Sigil of Baphomet during the 60’s. So to answer is Baphomet a sign of good or evil? It’s a sign of both.
Kind of like yin-yang, finding that balance between good/evil.
Feel free to add more info on this misunderstood symbol.
Just an addendum, Baphomet is an -interpretation- of a pagan god that doesn’t exist and became a god in itself after that.
It is NOT a symbol for evil, and while people like to mistake Baphomet, Satan and Lucifer they are -not- the same deity at all.
It is said to symbolise the highest form of harmony and duality between male and female, darkness and light, and while it is regularly connected with black magic and satanism, it’s because that’s something that was added in retrospective of the Knights Templar in the 1800 century.Baphomet is said to symbolise every creature in the animal kingdom, and often carries the Staff of Hermes (Caduceus, a symbol for medicine) and borrows attributes from already existing gods (Pan, anyone?).
Now, anyone please correct me if I’m wrong.
